HONOLULU—An informational briefing on cyber crime was convened in July by retired Police Captain George Fontaine, who now serves as a representative from Maui. The co-convener of the event was Rep. Kymberly Pine of Ewa Beach.

At the briefing, Maui County Police Chief Gary A. Yabuta addressed the growing sophistication of cyber crimes and the challenge this presents to police officers in Hawaii.

Detective Christopher Duque, a retired 30-year veteran of the Honolulu Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division shared his views as one of the leading experts in cyber security.

The informational briefing follows a reported cyber attack on Pine, which claimed the legislator stole money from a constituent then tried to cover it up.
