UH announces Social Sciences Dean candidates

MANOA—Three finalists have been identified for the position of Dean of the College of Social Sciences at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. The three are scheduled to participate in a two-day period of visits that covers college department discussions; meetings with senior administrators, faculty, staff, students and members of their respective professions; and a public presentation.

Campus and community members, as well as the general public, are encouraged to attend.

The campus visits of the three candidates have been scheduled as follows:

Dr. Nicole Constable, visiting April 25 to 26
Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Research
Professor of Anthropology
University of Pittsburgh
Public Presentation: Tuesday, April 26 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Art Building, Room 132

Dr. Denise Konan, visiting May 2 to 3  
Professor and Chair, Department of Economics
University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa
Public Presentation: Tuesday, May 3 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Bilger Hall 150

Dr. William Long, visiting May 12 to 13
Professor and Chair, Sam Nunn School of International Affairs
Georgia Institute of Technology
Public Presentation: Friday, May 13 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Crawford Hall 105

“The Search Advisory Committee has done an excellent job of identifying a pool of highly qualified candidates,” said Chancellor Virginia Hinshaw. 

Added Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Reed Dasenbrock, “The College of Social Sciences is the largest of our colleges at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa.  The new dean will play a key role in all of our efforts to improve undergraduate education and the Mānoa experience.”
