Roots blamed for Aiea Heights sewage overflow
The City’s Department of Environmental Services responded to a sanitary sewer overflow late last night in Aiea Heights.
The call came in at 8:31 p.m. with ENV arriving at the scene at 11:00 p.m. and secured the site at 11:40 p.m.
Roots clogged an 8-inch vitrified clay pipe discharging an estimated 2,800 gallons of untreated wastewater from a private cleanout at 99-1184 Aiea Heights Drive—800 gallons absorbed in the ground and 2,000 gallons reached a storm drain leading to Aiea Bay. ENV cleaned, disinfected and deodorized the affected area.
The City notified the state Department of Health. Signs are posted with water sampling and monitoring underway.
