City to commemorate La Ho‘iho‘i Ea
The City and County of Honolulu will recognize the 170th anniversary of La Ho‘iho‘i Ea on Wednesday at 11:30 at Thomas Square.
The keynote speaker is Puakea Nogelmeier. Senator Daniel Akaka and Mayor Kirk Caldwell will offer remarks. Other participants include the Royal Order of Kamehameha I, Daughters of Hawaii, the Royal Hawaiian Band Glee Club, and Halau Na Pualei O Likolehua.
La Ho‘iho‘i Ea, or “Restoration Day,” refers to the return of sovereignty to Kamehameha III after a five-month occupation by British naval officer Captain Lord George Paulet.
