City seeks lei donations for Memorial Day

HONOLULU — The City and County of Honolulu is seeking the public’s help in providing 50,000 lei for the graves of our veterans this Memorial Day. The lei will be placed at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in time for the Mayor’s Memorial Day Ceremony on May 30, and at other veterans’ cemeteries. The City is encouraging residents and visitors to honor our veterans by donating lei.

All lei must be made of fresh flower or ti leaves and measure 20-24 inches before tying.  Anthurium bouquets are also welcomed.

Drop off containers will be available at Punchbowl from the morning of May 25 through noon, May 29.


City facilities will also receive lei at the following sites on Friday, May 27:


All City fire stations: from 6:30 a.m. to 12 noon

Various City Parks: from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Lei will also be gratefully accepted on May 27 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Department of Parks and Recreation, Kapolei Hale, 1000 Uluohia Street; and at the Frank F. Fasi Municipal Building, 650 S. King Street.
