From the Honolulu TOD website:
Transit-Oriented Development is a pattern of different uses - residential and commercial - surrounding a transit station that takes advantage of the convenience of transit. A TOD neighborhood typically has more intense uses at its core with progressively lower-density development spreading outward. TODs generally occur within a radius of one-quarter mile from a transit stop, as this is considered to be a comfortable distance for pedestrians.
Transit-Oriented Development in Honolulu is occuring in the context of the development of the a major rail project that stretches from Ewa to Kaka‘ako.
