Business Regulation

Background

Stories pertaining to federal, state and local regulations meant to balance the interests of business with those of the public as a whole. These regulations are put in place to protect employees’ rights, protect the environment and hold corporations accountable for the amount of power they have in this business-driven, neoliberal society. In Hawai‘i, land and resource development is often the primary requisite for such regulation, as the archipelago’s limited resources must be used wisely and business interests often seek to over-develop in order to increase profits at the expense of the environment and the rights of people, particularly indigenous Hawaiians.
