Verbatim: Honolulu Advertiser says goodbye

Hawaii Independent Staff

The staff of The Honolulu Advertiser issued the following message on its website this morning, the first official day of the new conglomerate newspaper The Star-Advertiser. Blogger Ian Lind reported today that Honolulu Advertiser staff who did not get 60 days notice of their terminations will not be able to take other jobs without forfeiting the pay and benefits they’re due and are considered “on call.” The new Star-Advertiser will employ about 450 workers, a cut of about 430 Honolulu Advertiser jobs:

To our subscribers, readers, online users, advertisers and all who supported The Honolulu Advertiser and HonoluluAdvertiser.com, from the newsroom staff and our colleagues in advertising, marketing, finance, circulation, production, technology, human resources, and administration, we’d like to say “aloha” and “thank you.”

The Advertiser closes after more than 150 years of serving the community and Hawaii opens a new chapter in local journalism.

Aloha kakou.
