UH football, Wahine volleyball fans treated to big wins this Halloween weekend
HONOLULU—The University of Hawaii Warrior football will be headed to the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl after a solid 45-10 homecoming victory over the Idaho Vandals Saturday night at Aloha Stadium.
The Warriors, currently undefeated at 5-0 in the WAC (7-2 overall), achieved its earliest bowl berth in school history. Hawaii has capped its season with a bowl bid in seven of the last nine years.
UH scored 28 points off of four Vandal turnovers, 21 in the first half. Idaho was held to just 3 points until the final minutes of the game.
Hawaii’s Bryant Moniz threw for 326 yards and three touchdowns after completing 27-of-38 attempts. Moniz also rushed for 43 yards and a touchdown. Receiver Greg Salas finished with 11 catches for 168 yards.
But it was WAC Player of the Week Corey Paredes who stole the show by pulling in 15 tackles.
Next week is the big one against nationally ranked Boise State on their blue home turf at Bronco Stadium. Kickoff is 1:30 p.m. MT (9:30 p.m. HT) and will be televised on ESPNU.
Rainbow Wahine sweep New Mexico State Aggies
The UH Rainbow Wahine volleyball team are also undefeated in the WAC at 11-0 (21-1 overall). The Wahine swept the New Mexico State Aggies (15-10, 9-2) 25-18, 25-10 and 25-23 at the Stan Sheriff Center on Sunday.
Brittany Hewitt hit .727 with eight kills, Kanani Danielson had 11 kills and seven digs, and freshmen Michelle Waber and Emily Hartong each added seven kills.
The Aggies suffered a string of close defeats, allowing the Wahine to go on a 4-0 run and close it out by taking it 25-18.
The Rainbow Wahine host Louisiana Tech tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center, then take on Hawaii Pacific University on Friday, November 5 at 7:00 p.m.
