Tribe blocks Hawaii trash from being dumped in Washington
A federal judge Thursday granted the Yakama Nation a temporary restraining order blocking shipments of garbage from Hawaii from going into a Columbia River Basin landfill in Roosevelt, Washington. The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court on Wednesday by the Yakama Nation and several environmental groups against the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which approved plans for shipments of plastic-wrapped bales of waste.
