Hawaii Independent Staff

Dance, jam, and feel the heat as Hawaii’s most notorious club DJs compete for over $5,000 in cash and prizes as part of the Third Annual Mai Tai “Hot Island DJ” Spin-Off. Every Sunday through January 23, 2011, Ala Moana’s Mai Tai Bar will be spinning hip-hop, Top 40, island music, trance, drum and bass, and anything else your friendly neighborhood DJ feels like playing that night.

The Hot Island DJ Spin-Off, presented by Stella Artois and 93.9 Jamz will be hosted by DJ Kutmaster Spaz and Flip The Bird Entertainment.

Contestants will be judged on five categories: creativity (the originality of performance and remixes), music selection/programming (choice of music that moves the crowd), mix ability/smoothness (blends and transitions), showmanship, and crowd response.

Weekly contestants will compete in 20+ minute sets. Contestants must be aged 18 and over.

The DJ equipment list that will be provided for the competition are as follows:

(1) Rane 57 Serato Mixer

(1) Pioneer 800 DjM

(1) SL-1 Serato Box

(2) Technics 1200’s MK-3D’s
