Hawaii Independent Staff

The Orchestra of the Hawaiian Islands is scheduled to perform Saturday, January 8 from 5:00 p.m. at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. Special guest Danny Akaka, Jr. will join conductor Philip Simmons and the orchestra for Byron Yasui’s “Lo’ihi: Birth of an Island,” highlighting this concert of Hawaiian classical music.

The Orchestra of the Hawaiian Islands brings music lovers together in appreciation of the natural beauty of symphonic music.

Through performances and educational outreach, the orchestra invites full collaboration with the many diverse communities which make up the Hawaiian Islands.

The orchestra is working to define and preserve Hawaiian culture, respectfully integrating it into the mainstream of contemporary American classical music.

Tickets are $75 (includes pre-concert reception at 4:00 p.m. and 20 percent off dinner), with proceeds benefiting the Orchestra of the Hawaiian Islands. Tickets are available at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, Kona Wine Market, and online at www.americanmusicfestivals.com.
