No Shame! Forum explores GLBT experience for Japanese Americans in Hawaii

George Takei to give keynote address

A forum titled “No Shame!: Talking About the Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender Japanese American Experience in Hawaii” part of the Japanese American Social Issues Series happens Sunday, September 12.

The program addresses the unique issues that Japanese American members of the GLBT community face.

The event will feature a keynote speech from famed actor George Takei titled “Embracing Change.” His address will be followed by a quick question-and-answer session with Takei as well as a panel discussion including Jo Chang, Micah Inoue, Kim Coco Iwamoto, Cameron Mikio Jimenez Miyamoto, and Rae Watanabe. The discussion will be moderated by Christine R. Yano, Ph.D.

The Japanese American Social Issues Series is sponsored by Equality Hawaii Foundation and grants from the Gill Foundation and Hawaii People’s Fund, Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii, and the Japanese American Citizens League—Honolulu Chapter.
