No Child Left Behind: Hawaii’s ‘Blue Ribbon Schools’ to be announced

HONOLULU—Three public schools have been selected to represent the Hawaii in the 2011 No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon Schools Program. Three schools chosen out of the 15 nominated will be announced Monday and awarded $3,000 by Frito Lay of Hawaii as part of the Hawaii Distinguished Schools Program.

The program honors schools that make significant progress in closing the achievement gap or whose students achieve at the highest levels. Students, teachers, staff, and principals will be present.

The 15 elementary and secondary schools nominated for 2011 are: Haleiwa Elementary, Waialua Elementary, Palisades Elementary, Laie Elementary, Hookena Elementary, Kahala Elementary, Kalani High School, Koko Head Elementary, Liholiho Elementary, Maemae Elementary, Manoa Elementary, Noelani Elementary, Nuuanu Elementary, Aikahi Elementary, and Education Laboratory NCPCS.

The program will also recognize the three schools chosen in 2010: Momilani Elementary, Ewa Beach Elementary, and Royal Elementary.

The announcement takes place on Monday, November 1 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort and Spa, Coral Ballroom 3.
