May 1: Mother’s Day Tillandsia Surprise workshop at Halawa Xeriscape Garden

Hawaii Independent Staff

The Board of Water Supply, in partnership with the Friends of Halawa Xeriscape Garden, is offering the Mother’s Day Tillandsia Surprise workshop at the Halawa Xeriscape Garden on Saturday, May 1 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Make Mother’s Day extra special this year by crafting a one-of-a kind, ornamented plant for Mom.

Glue guns, scissors and other supplies will be available for sharing. However, participants are encouraged to bring their own tools and embellishments to create their unique decorative plant. Attendees are welcome to bring a brown bag lunch to enjoy at the garden after the workshop.

The Halawa Xeriscape Garden is located at 99-1268 Iwaena Street in Halawa Valley’s Central Park Industrial Area.

Advanced registration is required. Contact Diane at (808) 748-5363 or email [email protected] to reserve your seat today. Registration ends on Thursday, April 29 or when class is filled.

The cost for this activity is $15 for the general public. A discounted rate is being offered to members of the Friends of Halawa Xeriscape Garden. The activity fee includes (1) tillandsia plant and (1) decorative item per person. Additional materials and/or plants may be available for a nominal fee payable to the instructor—cash only.

On hand will be Bromeliad enthusiast Marty Lum, who has taught popular Tillandsia Xeriscape crafts for many years, where participants created beautiful glass centerpieces, festive holiday ornaments and even birdhouses.
