Kumu Kahua Theatre to offer playwriting class
DOWNTOWN — Kumu Kahua Theatre is offering an adult beginners playwriting class for the public, with a series of sessions to begin on Saturday, June 18. The program runs each Saturday through July 23, and takes place at the Merchant Street theater.
The classes will be taught by Victoria Nalani Kneubuhl, whose Holiday of Rain recently enjoyed a successful run at Kumu Kahua Theatre, which commissioned the work. Kneubuhl has had twelve of her plays produced, through the U.S., United Kingdom, and Asia. In 1994 she was honored with the Hawai`i Award for Literature, the highest honor the State of Hawai`i bestows on a writer.
For the TV series Biography Hawaii Victoria Nalani Kneubuhl served as producer/writer for programs centering on Maiki Aiu Lake, Harriet Bouslog, Ruth Ke`elikālani and Koji Ariyoshi. Kneubuhl has also been actively involved in producing many community programs that reflect the unique history and lifestyle of her island home. She was named one of the Extraordinary Women on Hawai`i in 2001 by the Foundation for Hawai`i Women’s History and the Native Hawaiian Library of Alu Like, Inc.
