House Finance Committee rejects gambling bills

The state House Finance Committee agreed last night to defer a bill that would have allowed a casino on Oahu, as lawmakers discarded gambling as an option to help with the state’s budget deficit, The Honolulu Advertiser’s Derrick DePledge reports. The committee also has decided not to hear a bill that would allow casinos on Hawaiian home lands, so lawmakers will likely not move any closer toward legalized gambling this session.
