Honolulu’s mayor and prosecutor special elections set for September 18
HONOLULU—The Honolulu City Council set Saturday, September 18—the same day as the State primary elections—to be the special election day for the offices of Mayor and Prosecuting Attorney.
Kirk Caldwell took over as acting Honolulu Mayor this week when former-Mayor Mufi Hannemann resigned to officially run for governor. Kirk Caldwell plans to run for mayor.
Acting Prosecuting Attorney Douglas Chin took over the duties yesterday of former City prosecutor Peter Carlisle, who also plans to run for mayor.
The City prosecutor, in four-year terms, attends all courts in the City and conducts, on behalf of the people, all prosecutions therein for offenses against the laws of the State and the ordinances and rules and regulations of the City
Candidates in the nonpartisan mayor’s race include Caldwell, Carlisle, Councilman Donovan Dela Cruz, Councilman Rod Tam, and University of Hawaii engineering professor Panos Prevedouros.
