Honolulu architects seek public participation for deciding People’s Choice Awards
HONOLULU—The American Institute of Architects, Honolulu Chapter (AIA Honolulu) is seeking your input on nominees for its Fifth Annual People’s Choice Award by allowing the general public to determine its favorite of 32 completed projects.
Since 1926, the AIA Honolulu has served its membership and the community by promoting design excellence in Hawaii’s built environment.
AIA Honolulu’s Annual Design Awards has been held annually since 1958. All project types are eligible for submission by members from small home renovations to multi-million dollar resorts in far-flung destinations.
Online voting will take place at www.aiahonolulu.org/peopleschoice from May 6 through May 20. The People’s Choice Award winner will be announced on Tuesday, June 28 at the AIA Honolulu Design Awards Gala at the Hawaii Prince Hotel and Golf Club.
Entrants are located throughout Hawaii and the Pacific and were submitted by local AIA Honolulu member-architects.
The commercial projects for People’s Choice consideration include Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station (Antarctica), Beach Tree Restaurant (Kailua-Kona), C-MORE Hale – The Center for Microbial Oceanographic Research & Education (Honolulu), Diagnostic Laboratory Services (Aiea), Hau‘oli Mau Loa Foundation (Honolulu), Hawaii National Bank Building (Honolulu), Honolulu Zoo, Kaupuni Village (Waianae), Kukui‘ula Retail Village (Koloa, Kauai), LUXE Nails & Spa (Honolulu), Maui Arts & Cultural Center Yokouchi FamilyPavilion (Kahului), Ritz-Carlton Club & Residences at Kapalua Bay (Lahaina), Ronald T.Y. Moon Judiciary Complex (Kapolei), Roosevelt High School George Robert Carter Auditorium (Honolulu), Shangri-La’s Boracay Resort & Spa (Philippines), Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort & Spa, (Maldives), Sheraton Waikiki, Studio Wakea (Honolulu), Sushi Izakaya (Honolulu), Waikiki Shopping Plaza and Waikoloa Kings’ Land Clubhouse.
The public will also have the opportunity to select from a number of residential submissions for the People’s Choice Award, including homes in Hawaii Loa Ridge, Kaupulehu (Big Island), Kihei, Kona, Kukio Bay (Big Island), Manoa, Portlock, and Waialae.
AIA Honolulu members are determining the Jack C. Lipman, AIA Members’ Choice Award (named in honor of one of the Hawaii chapter’s most distinguished past presidents) from among the same 32 projects. The recipient of this award is recognized as having achieved an outstanding level of design, appropriate to the climate and culture of Hawaii, as voted by fellow AIA members.
