State representative Della Au Belatti hosts a town hall meeting on Thursday at St. Clement’s Church on Wilder Avenue in Makiki that will feature Governor Neil Abercrombie, Public Utilities Commission Chair Hermina Morita, and Denny Coffman, Chair of the House Energy & Environmental Protection Committee.

In addition to providing information about the ambitious effort being undertaken by Hawaii’s public and private sectors to achieve energy efficiency and self-sufficiency through the use of renewable energy, the Makiki Town Hall Meeting celebrates Earth Day 2011.

Although officially held on April 22, 2011, many local events and volunteer opportunities are held throughout the month of April to mark the 41st anniversary of the annual day of appreciation for the planet.

“Those who attend the meeting can start ‘going green’ by visiting the Makiki evening Farmers’ Market at St. Clements’s Church for a dinner plate or light snack before going to the meeting,” said Rep. Belatti. “Supporting our local producers is important to the health of our state and helps us move toward self-sufficiency.”

The Makiki evening Farmers’ Market takes place every Thursday, from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m.
