The ARTS at Marks Garage presents its opening reception for HiTides with a Surf-Tastic Rock Party honoring our ocean and the aesthetic, ecological, practical and recreational value of our Surf. Presented in partnership with The Surfrider Foundation, this event will feature Surf Rock and original tunes by Mano Kane, Surf Themed drink specials including Kona Brew Longboard and Fire Rock Pale Ale. Hawaii State Art Museum. Guitarist Dayton Watanabe performs this First Friday. Dayton will perform Hawaiian slack key, contemporary, and pop classics. 6:00-9:00 p.m., second floor of the No. 1 Capitol District Building.

Mendonca Building, Chinatown Courtyard. ARTmusicBEER. The Chinatown Courtyard will be transformed into a Secret Beer Garden benefiting The ARTS at Marks. Shop Bop & Grind takes over the downstairs walkway with music by DJ Mr. Nick. Check out what’s happening in the Chinatown Artist Loft, including a woodcarving demonstration, music jam session and photo exhibit. 5:00 -10:00 p.m. 126 Smith Street (Mendonca Building).

Pegge Hopper Gallery. Global Caravan presents its annual carpet bazaar at the Pegge Hopper Gallery. Museum quality pieces, some dating back to 1850, including great examples of Turkish, Persian and Armenian carpets. 1164 Nuuanu Avenue.
