Final tsunami evacuation workshops through August 5

HONOLULU—The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Emergency Management will present the final five public information workshops to provide coastal communities around the island a preview of the new Tsunami Evacuation Zone Maps.

All five remaining workshops are scheduled for next week:

·      Asing Park – Renton Road          
Monday, August 2 at 5:30 p.m.

·      Kaaawa Elementary School        
Tuesday, August 3 at 5:30 p.m.

·      Special Downtown presentation, Mission Memorial Auditorium – Frank F. Fasi Civic Center
Wednesday, August 4 at 9:00 a.m. 

·      Kailua District Park                  
Wednesday, August 4 at 5:30 p.m.

·      Kilauea District Park                  
Thursday, August 5 at 5:30 p.m.       

Each workshop is designed specifically for that particular community.

This is the first revision to the existing tsunami evacuation maps since 1991 and was accomplished using scientific techniques and technology not available at that time.

Representatives from the City’s Department of Emergency Management will present the new maps, discuss the implications for Oahu residents, and answer questions. City first responders will also be present.
