Dragon Boat Festival and Sunset on the Beach take off at Ala Moana this weekend

The Dragon Boat Festival is once again this year being combined with the Rediscover Oahu/Sunset on the Beach at Ala Moana Beach Park this weekend from June 19 to 20.

Dragon boat races will have teams consisting of a crew of 16 paddlers, a drummer, flag catcher, and steersman. There are two race categories, the open race and division, which consists of teams competing for an industry trophy. Entry fees have been waived, thanks to grants and private donations. Sunset on the Beach will feature free Blockbuster movies on a 30-foot screen (Alvin and the Chipmunks on Saturday and Alice in Wonderland on Sunday), live entertainment, face-painting, a performance by the Royal Hawaiian Band, keiki inflatable rides, crafts, community booths, and local ono food booths. Barbecuing will not be permitted within the Sunset site.

This year’s added activities include Dragon Boat Grass Volleyball Tournament from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Dragon Boat Futsal soccer from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
