Conference to address plight of families affected by incarceration

HONOLULU—Keiki O Ka Aina Family Learning Centers, an organization dedicated to assisting families affected by parental incarceration, will hold the one-day Strengthening Families Affected by Incarceration (SFAI) Summit at the Manoa Grand Ballroom on Friday, September 30.

The keynote speaker for the SFAI event is Dr. Maya Soetoro-Ng, a University of Hawaii author and lecturer who also happens to be the younger half-sister of President Barack Obama. The title of her keynote address is “Three Lessons on Resilience.”

The focus of the summit it to discuss ways to reduce the impact of parental incarceration on children, families, and communities.  Also speaking at the SFAI Summit will be former Lieutenant Gov. Duke Aiona, Department of Public Safety Director Jodie Maesaka-Hirata, and WCCC Warden Mark Patterson.
