Equality Hawaii celebrates National Coming Out Day

Equality Hawaii Foundation—a diverse collection of individuals and organizations dedicated to securing equality for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people and their families in Hawaii—has a lot in store for this busy Coming Out Day weekend.

On Sunday, October 10 from 9:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. comes Masquerade, a Halloween experience to benefit Equality Hawaii Foundation and Save The FoodBasket at Oceans 808 in Restaurant Row. The night features a Halloween masquerade with a costume contest, silent auction, drawings, and more. This year’s theme is “Creatures of the Night.” Save the FoodBasket’s mission is to provide low income individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS on Oahu with nourishing food and aloha, a community to thrive in, and a way to empower themselves and others. Tickets are $20 in advance, $30 at the door and avaialable at http://action.equalityhawaii.org/masquerade

Monday, October 11, a National Coming Out Day celebration takes place from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the University of Hawaii Campus Center. Free admission. Call (808) 966-9250 for more information.

Also on Monday, October 11 at 7:00 p.m. is a screening of the film 8: The Mormon Proposition at Bambu Venu, 1144 Bethel St. The weekly movie night at Bambu Venu will feature the award-winning film and a panel discussion. And through October 15, Hawaii Family Portraits will be on display at Maui Community College. The show now includes stories of families from Kauai and Maui. Libraray hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Fridays, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; closed weekends.
