City’s Lei Day celebration May 1 at Kapiolani Park features family fare

HONOLULU—The City and County of Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation presents the 84th annual Lei Day Celebration on Sunday, May 1, 2011, at the Queen Kapi‘olani Park Bandstand from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  This free event features the Coronation of Lei Queen Sandrina Lei Ilima Cabato De La Cruz and her court, First Lei Princess Haunani Judd Kauahi, and Princesses Linda Mae Ululani Chock, Wande Keanui Doane, Lorene Leimomi Erwin Hopkins and Carolyn “Skip” Kaonohilani Tomiyama.

Outstanding entertainment and Hawaiian music, including a steel guitar concert will be offered from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  The lei exhibit, from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m., features spectacular creations, and Tûtû’s Hale will be open from 1 to 5 p.m., presenting stories, songs, hula, lei making and lauhala weaving for keiki and their ‘ohana.
