Cherry Blossom Cabaret spins Romeo and Juliet with ‘Femme Capulet’
CHINATOWN—The Cherry Blossom Cabaret (CBC) presents Femme Capulet at The Arts at Mark’s Garage this weekend and next. It will be the group’s fifth presentation of the popular show. This run will mark CBC’s first collaboration with acclaimed local director Troy Apostol, who has directed many successful shows at Kumu Kahua Theater and with the Hawaii Shakespeare Festival.
Femme Capulet is billed as an “experimental take” on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, incorporating elements of burlesque, traditional theater, and hip-hop. The story is set in a burlesque house, and combines acting, aerial and street dance, and singing.
Femme Capulet, is a follow-up to CBC’s previous burlesque/theatrical productions including VarieTease: Carnal Carnival (2011), VarieTease: Cabaret Carnival (2008), VarieTease: Feast of the Gods (2009), and VarieTease: Alice in Chinatown (spring and fall 2010), all of which enjoyed wildly successful, sold-out runs.
