Auto repair shop owner sentenced on felony tax violations

HONOLULU—The Department of Taxation announced on August 2, Kenneth K. Tamashiro of Pacific Automotive and Performance Center, Inc. was sentenced by Judge Michael A. Town on multiple felony and misdemeanor tax violations.

Judge Town denied Tamashiro’s request for a deferral of his no contest plea and found him guilty of his tax crimes.

Tamashiro was placed on five years probation for theft of his employees’ State withholding taxes and given a two-month suspended jail term for the felony charges to run concurrently. He was also given one year probation for 14 misdemeanor counts of willful failure to file the corporation’s annual general excise tax returns, the employer’s annual withholding tax returns, and corporate income tax returns.

In addition, Tamashiro was ordered to pay restitution of $99,982, a free standing order, to be held jointly and severally with his corporation and pay a fine of $14,000. Judge Town also placed the corporation on five years probation to run concurrent for the felony violations.
