Annual North Shore Menehune Surf Contest open for applicants

The 34th Annual North Shore Menehune Surf Contest is returning this year for two weekends full of fun for children ages 12 and under. The popular contest, which draws young surfers throughout the state, will kick off the winter surf season on October 16 and 17, and wrap up on October 23 and 24 at Haleiwa’s Alii Beach Park.

The contest is usually at full capacity each year, so make sure to pick up an application soon from most surf shops in Haleiwa. Applications can be mailed to or dropped off at Surf N Sea along with the $25 entry fee by October 5.

All contestants receive a contest T-shirt, lunch, goodie bag, and other prizes during the four-day contest.

Eleven divisions are available, and each contestant is allowed to enter one division only. The contest is open for children ages three through 12, and features the kokua division where parents help children ages three-to-six in the water or on the beach.
