6.7 magnitude quake strikes Alaska, no tsunami warnings in effect
HONOLULU—A 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Alaska Saturday night, but no widespread threat of a tsunami has been reported by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
The earthquake was centered 27 miles west of Nikolski in the Aleutian island chain at a depth of 21.7 miles.
As of 8:13 p.m. on Saturday, July 17, there is no warning for Hawaii or anywhere in the Pacific.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center did state, however, that Hawaii could experience non-destructive sea level changes and strong or unusual currents lasting several hours from 12:12 a.m. Sunday, July 18.
