Left turn lane to get onto the freeway finally comes to Harding Avenue
Don't hold your breath, the process of building them will take 11 months
KAIMUKI—Construction will begin on Monday, November 15 to create a left turn lane at two freeway entrances on Harding Avenue in Kaimuki, a long awaited improvement to the current congestion at these intersections.
The first area to begin construction will be at the on ramp at 5th Avenue and Harding. Construction of the left turn lane at 11th Avenue is projected to begin around March 2011.
The entire process—breaking curbs, widening roadways, adding utilities—is expected to take about 11 months, according to the director of the Department of Transportation Services, Wayne Yoshioka. He also said that the entire operation will be cognizant of various Holiday events as well as traffic patterns in the area, so as to minimize traffic delays.
