$1.5 million in federal funding goes to new bus and Handi-Vans on Oahu

HONOLULU—The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded a $1,548,000 grant to the City and County of Honolulu Department of Transportation Services to help purchase one new 35-foot bus and twenty new Handi-Vans to address Oahu’s public transit needs.

The total cost of the transportation project is $2,719,534. The single fully-loaded, 35-foot bus will cost about $500,000. Each Handi-Van costs about $105,000. The City will utilize matching funds to complete the purchase of the vehicles.

The City’s Department of Transportation Services is expected to begin the bidding process soon.
