Hannemann admits mistake on off-island fundraiser
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mufi Hannemann on Wednesday acknowledged mistakes were made in the planning for a recent mainland fundraiser but also sought to deflect some of the scrutiny onto his rivals, Associated Press’ Herbert A. Sample reports. The mayor of Honolulu insisted there was nothing inappropriate about a June 9 fundraiser in Pittsburgh that was hosted by a former executive of Bombardier Transportation, a subsidiary of a Canadian firm that hopes to sell rail cars to the city’s proposed transit system. But because press reports about the fundraiser and criticism by other candidates have cast a “cloud” over it, Hannemann said he would accept no contributions from the event.
